Messages go straight from one browser to the other. Nothing is stored, and nothing on the way can read them.
Your chats stay connected while you're on this screen.
Any app works — it's safe to send in the open.
They scan this with their phone camera, or from Slip · I got a code → Scan
Opens Slip with the code filled in. If they have it installed, the app opens; otherwise the web page does.
The full code. They paste it under “I got a code” in Slip, on any device.
Nothing leaves this device while you do this.
Their code checked out. Send this back the same way and the chat opens on its own.

Usually a few seconds. Keep this open.
Some Wi-Fi and mobile networks block direct connections. A relay gets around it — you both need the same one.
If they match, no one else is listening.
Next time you chat, Slip will recognise their key and skip the numbers. Only a name and a public key are kept, nothing from the conversation.
When this window isn't in front, Slip can show a desktop notification and play a short chime. The notification only says "New message", never the text.
Someone may be between you, or one of you pasted a different code. Don't type anything here. Burn this chat and start over with a fresh code.
Your keys are still here, so you don't need to start over. One of you makes a reconnect code and the other pastes it. Nothing is re-verified.
Helps when networks block direct connections. It forwards scrambled data only — it can't read anything, but it does see both of your IP addresses.
Optional. The people you chat with see it. They can always rename you on their own device, and nothing stops someone else claiming the same name, so the safety numbers stay the thing that proves who is who.
Optional. Your invite becomes a short link and the chat opens on its own, with no codes to swap. The server only ever sees scrambled data and a random mailbox id — never your keys or your messages. It does see your IP address while you use it.
Give this to someone and they can knock; you accept from whichever of your devices you're on. It's a fingerprint of your first device's key, so nobody can impersonate it — not even the server. Linking more devices doesn't change it.
Both screens must show the same eight groups. Say them out loud together.
Counted from the last time you touched Slip, and never more than 8 hours.
Changes apply to the call straight away, and to your next calls.
Opens instantly, works offline, and codes people send you open straight into Slip.
